Salary Range:



$99,700 - $196,100



*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.



What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to serve as the Mechanical Lead for the Mk21 Fuze Program.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Act as one of the primary interfaces between systems and component/subsystem teams to drive successful design integration across all phases of the program.



+ Support system lead engineers in developing system level design concepts, architecture, and physical layout.



+ Lead a diverse team of mechanical engineers to execute program deliverables and reach major system milestones.



+ Perform system/subsystem trade studies balancing performance, costs, risks, materials, functionalities, and technology maturation.



+ Review and approve systems, subsystem, or component level CAD drawings.



+ Drive component/subsystem teams’ scope of work and deliverables and ensures higher level integration is successful.



+ Review system for integration compatibility and compliance.



+ Prepare presentations and other supporting documentation needed for technical reviews.



+ Represent the program while collaborating regularly with partners at Sandia, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations.



+ Regularly interface with the Production Agent to ensure the progress of system builds while maintaining design integrity.





Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline plus (5) years of related experience or equivalent.



+ Related experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development.



+ Academic or job experiences in areas such as: engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.



+ Active DOE Q-level security clearance or Department of Defense Top Secret clearance.





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.



+ Experience working on ND programs, either in systems or component organizations.



+ Familiarity with computational simulation and modeling tools and/or computer aided design tools - Creo/ProE, SolidWorks etc.



+ Experience with development of specifications for components and systems.



+ Experience with Earned Value Management.



+ Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.



+ Experience in a leadership role.



+ Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team focused environment.

Center 2300 manages the modernization of multiple nuclear weapon systems. The Center leads the Laboratories’ NM efforts to develop integrated engineering solutions that maintain weapon systems required for military effectiveness and reliability while seeking improvements in safety and security. The Center provides systems engineering, integration, qualification, and product realization expertise for nuclear weapon system modernization programs from concept development through initial operating capability. This organization’s current focus is to deliver on time and within budget the B61-12 LEP, W88 ALT 370/940, Mk21 Arming and Fuzing Assembly, W80-4 and the W87-1.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
