What Your Job Will Be Like:

Join a diverse team of scientists and engineers focusing on applied research in the interests of National Security and achieve your goals while making a difference! The Applied Nuclear Technologies department is seeking a highly motivated nuclear or electrical engineer to assist in a wide variety of duties associated with the design, testing and analysis of custom electrical and radiation experiments. You will use your education and experience to assist in the radiation testing and modeling of device response to radiation. This position will work in both office and laboratory environments, at frequent on and off-site testing across the US, and in radiation and contamination areas. Job duties may include electrical circuit response modeling, radiation transport calculations, programming for automation and analysis, organizing experiment logistics, overseeing experimental campaigns, circuit and PCB design, and hands-on experimental work.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a relevant STEM field and four years relevant experience or Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, or a relevant STEM field

+ Experience with radiation transport codes especially MCNP or other relevant computational software

+ The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Two years of relevant post-graduate employment in nuclear, electrical, or related engineering fields

+ Experience with laboratory testing and test operations

+ Experience with nuclear radiation transport and/or radiation effects

+ A desire to publish their research work in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences

+ Experience with electronic circuit design and analysis

+ Experience with engineering design tools such as SolidWorks, Altium Designer, or other relevant computer aided mechanical or electrical design software

+ Experience with programming and/or data automation software such as C++, FORTRAN, Matlab, LabView and/or Python

About Our Team:

As part of the Radiation & Electrical Sciences Center, the Applied Nuclear Technologies Department (1384) explores, develops, and applies physics and engineering principles to many areas of nuclear and radiation technology. The Department is responsible for the Device Physics, Energetic Neutrons, Neutron/Gamma and Transient Neutrons portion of the Sandia's Radiation Effects Sciences (RES) Program to explore radiation effects on electronic devices

We collaborate with the Nuclear Facilities Operations and the Radiation Modeling and Metrology departments at Sandia to 1) tailor and characterize appropriate testing environments in the TA-V nuclear facilities to meet customer needs and 2) design and conduct nuclear criticality experiments in the Sandia Critical Experiments (SCX) Facility for the NNSA Nuclear Criticality Safety Program (NCSP) and developed and deliver Hands-on training with critical experiments for the NCSP.

We operate and maintain a semiconductor devices laboratory which utilizes a variety of characterization techniques including DLTS to analyze native defects and radiation-induced defects in semiconductor devices and explore the damage mechanisms in devices exposed to different radiation environments
