What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking a R&D S&E, Electrical Engineer to contribute to our Trusted Systems research and development thrust, devise concepts, write proposals, and lead projects aimed at improving the nation's technologies for verifying nuclear weapons treaties while minimizing the risk of revealing sensitive information!



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Develop expertise on information barrier design and theory, certification and authentication of electronics for treaty verification systems, cryptographic systems, and future arms control concepts.



+ Lead projects in the design, development, testing, and fielding of verification and monitoring devices, including sensors, tags, and seals.



+ Represent the field of electronics trust for our sponsors, including the Office of Nuclear Verification (NA-243).





This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.



Qualifications We Require:









+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus one (1) year of experience or a PhD in a related field



+ Experience leading research and development projects



+ Experience with digital circuit design, analog circuit design, electronic systems design, or embedded systems design



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience with embedded systems, hardware, or software security and trust



+ Excellent written and oral communications skills



+ Proven experience in writing proposals



+ Proven experience in direct sponsor communications



+ Experience with cryptographic systems, including implementation of digital signature and hashing algorithms for data authentication and public-key cryptography for secure communications



+ Experience with digital and analog circuit design, prototyping, and testing



+ Experience with microcontroller programming



+ Experience with FPGA development



+ Experience with nonproliferation and arms control

The Nuclear Verification Department (6831) is making the world a safer place by helping the US Government to reduce nuclear threats. We give policymakers technical options for verifying declared nuclear warheads and materials to enable effective arms control treaties and agreements. We research, develop, evaluate, and field new technologies that increase our government's capability to verify treaties and manage nuclear materials. Our diverse work includes technical development of radiation detectors, information barriers, sensors, tags, seals, information management and protection, and other nuclear security technologies, often with ultra-low-power requirements. Our programs are performed with scientists and engineers in the Global Security & Cooperation Center (6800), across Sandia, with other national laboratories and sites, and internationally.

Security Clearance:
