What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Structures and Mechanisms Department (05324) is looking for versatile, self-motivated, team-oriented R&D, Mechanical Engineers to support mechanical design and analysis activities for Nuclear Deterrence (ND) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) related design activities.

On any given day, you may:

+ Perform tasks in more than one functional area including mechanical design, part procurement and fabrication, test definition and execution, and support hardware assembly

+ Coordinate with team members including electrical, systems engineering, RF engineering and others to create, model, and analyze design(s)

+ Ensuring the design meets system requirements and intent

+ Coordinate tasking with CAD designers, and modeling and analysis personnel to ensure proper modeling, testing, and analysis of design(s)

+ Interpret electrical and mechanical system requirements as they apply to the design

+ Map test plan results directly to system requirements

+ Perform lab testing using lab facilities internal and external to our department, consisting of electrical or embedded sensor components, and document these results

+ Assist with development of DA and PA Qualification and Acceptance documentation

+ Help with tool installation and process tool qualification activities

+ Help investigate process anomalies and resolve failure mechanisms and their impact on product acceptance and production

+ Present design information to our customers and colleagues

+ Travel as required to execute and support program requirements.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s degree in STEM or related discipline and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering OR

+ a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering; plus at least 5 years of experience in mechanical design, and/or mechanical analysis

+ Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance (with opportunities for high-level clearances).

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ CREO Proficiency is strongly desired.

+ Understanding of applying engineering principles to research, design, and develop mechanical, electromechanical, and structural systems

+ Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills personal initiative, responsiveness, and attention to detail

+ An entrepreneurial can-do spirit and the desire to exceed customer expectations

+ Active DOE Q-Level or equivalent DOD security clearance strongly desired.

About Our Team:

The Structures & Mechanisms Department, 5324, supplies mechanical and electromechanical, design, test and mechanical analysis to customers across Sandia Laboratories. We design, analyze, assemble, and test prototype hardware ultimately creating mature fieldable hardware designs. We offer quick turn mechanical modification, 3D printing, and machining capabilities along with electromechanical fabrication and assembly, test definition and execution, and installation for fieldable hardware. We have expertise in building prototype hardware while generating the appropriate documentation to enable “build-to-print” options for larger-scale production runs. Security Clearance:
