R&D Software Engineer (Early/Mid-Career)

The High Integrity Systems Department (02622) has a need for a dedicated R&D Computer Scientist to support the architecting, design, testing, and integration of software-based systems for both desktop and embedded applications. Our customer set includes ND programs, SPP programs with the GPS Directorate and OST, and other programs where secure computing is central to the mission. You'll be part of a tightly integrated team working to create, design, develop, qualify, and field multiple products in support of both R&D and production activities. You will be self-directed, customer-focused, and have strong teaming and analytical skills. It is expected that you will increase your level of responsibility and ownership with experience. Some travel may be required.

On any given day, you might be called on to:

+ Work with an Agile team to develop secure software-based systems
+ Architect software for deployment to a variety of SPP and ND customers
+ Create unit tests and demonstrate sufficient coverage and error handling
+ Work with Systems Engineers and our customers to define and clarify requirements
+ Document and communicate program status and engineering data to stakeholders

Required:

+ Bachelors in a relevant STEM discipline; or experience in lieu of a degree.
+ Experience with a high-level programming language (C#, C++, C)
+ Experience using configuration management (GIT, SVN, or Teamforge)
+ Active DOE Q or DoD TS Clearance

Desired:

+ Experience with embedded systems both bare-metal and OS-based
+ Understanding of software engineering and architecture
+ Understanding of common design patterns and how to apply them
+ Experience developing unit tests
+ Experience with Python and/or C#
+ Demonstrated ability to work within teams that cross technical disciplines
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
