What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking an R&D Systems Engineer to join the W93/Mk7 program as a Flight Test System Engineer to support the initial planning and development of the W93/Mk7 flight test program! The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, mission-driven team which will partner closely with the Advanced and Exploratory flight test programs. Additional responsibilities will include:





+ Working with customers to address program needs for each of the design agencies (Sandia, Los Alamos and Lockheed Martin)



+ Interaction with HOT SHOT and Enzo programs to develop and use these programs to benefit W93/Mk7 program.



+ Logistical engagement with flight scheduling, hardware delivery and field coordination



+ Technical engagement with experts in environmental analysis, design definition and component engineering at Sandia and with our partner agencies





On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Acts as an interface between Sandia, Lockheed Martin and Los Alamos National Laboratory for flight test planning and integration



+ Support development of flight test design concepts, architecture, and physical layouts



+ Perform trades balancing performance, costs, risks, materials, functionalities, and technology maturation



+ Support development and verification of flight test requirements



+ Support planning and pre-flight analysis of flight test missions



+ Support development of component- and system-level environments specifications for flight hardware



+ Develop plans for and conduct environmental testing of flight hardware and assemblies



+ Develop plans for and conduct functional testing of integrated flight electronics



+ Conduct troubleshooting of electrical / mechanical issues



+ Conduct post-flight analysis of telemetered data



+ Develop flight body assembly procedures and workflows



+ Support preparation for and execution of design reviews



+ Support various internal and external meetings (e.g., PRTs, working groups) while collaborating regularly with partners at Sandia, Los Alamos National Laboratories, Lockheed Martin Space, Applied Physics Lab, Navy Strategic Programs and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)



+ Work in both technical and leadership venues



+ Travel as required





Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.



Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or science field plus five (5) years’ experience; or Master’s degree in a related field plus one (1) year of experience; or PhD in a related field; or thirteen (13) year's experience



+ Academic or job experiences in areas such as: engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.



+ Active DOE Q (or equivalent) security clearance required to start





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience in electrical design, RF, electrical/functional testing and/or analysis.



+ Experience with Navy flight test programs.



+ Experience with telemetry system design, testing or analysis.



+ Experience in systems engineering of complex systems.



+ Experience with ND component or system design, development or production.



+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment showing initiative and leadership.



+ Motivation to work with a large integrated Systems team with broad interaction.



+ Ability to apply strong interpersonal and communications skills working on a team ranging from skilled laborers to PhD engineers/scientist.



+ Ability to plan and implement technical work.



+ Ability to prioritize competing requirements to give the best system-level outcome.



+ Ability to discover, understand and articulate constraints, options, paths-forward.



+ Commitment to operational safety, security and quality.

In addition, the department is responsible for establishing and building internal and external partnerships with NNSA Federal Program Managers, the US Navy, Sandia nuclear weapons component organizations, the Sandia science & technology community, the Kansas City Plant National Security Campus (NSC) and UK Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), and many others.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
