R&D Systems Engineer - SCOPE Project Lead (Experienced)

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to serve as a project lead for the Sandia Communications Portal for Enterprise (SCOPE) project within our Space Mission Engineering Program Office (6350). The selected applicant will employ a systems-level approach to plan and execute development of new operational requirements, as well as update the current software architecture. They will apply integrated technical judgment to balance development activities and operational use to obtain future accreditation for our government customer.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Be responsible for the successful execution of multi-million dollar space communications project
+ Collaborate with the government customer to elicit and define system requirements while managing project risks
+ Develop a strategy to implement a new cross domain solution and obtain formal accreditation to operate in a production environment
+ Engage laboratory peers in both NM and CA to increase existing operational capabilities
+ Advise management and senior management on project opportunities and risks

Required:

+ Bachelors and Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 5 years related technical experience
+ Strong, demonstrated foundation in systems engineering while delivering complex software and hardware architectures to meet mission requirements
+ Active DOE Q security clearance, or equivalent, and can obtain a SCI access which may require polygraph testing

Desired:

+ Project leadership experience in SPP/SiPP work
+ Proven ability to collaborate with external government customers and communicate effectively on both technical and programmatic topics
+ Experience designing and implementing communications hardware or software
+ Demonstrated experience building successful, multidisciplinary teams
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Current SCI access

Department Description:

We execute existing flight and critical communications projects for the Systems Mission Engineering Program Office. We focus on applied research and tailored solutions to tackle real-world technology problems for IC and DoD customers. The department's current focus includes an emergent integrated sensing and communications system supporting critical missions. We provide system engineering expertise to industry and Government partners. We also maintain and improve existing space payloads. We work with industry/Government partners to implement next generation flight systems. We are also responsible for development and maintenance of full stack cross-domain web applications for multiple users, sites and devices including the design of cross-domain IT architectures. In addition, we are responsible for execution of full system life cycle for multiple flight and communications projects.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
