R&D Systems Engineer- Underground Explosives Modeling (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking an early-to-mid career system engineer supporting SNLs role within a multi-laboratory leadership team responsible for the successful execution of a large-scale, field-experiment. This experiment supports a program incorporating field, laboratory, and modeling studies aimed at enhancing our nations capabilities for monitoring underground nuclear explosions anywhere in the world. You will collaborate with a lead system engineer to support the technical development of scientific requirements into the design requirements of this complex, large-scale, multi-disciplinary, field experiment. In this role, you may support the lead systems engineer with engaging a team, composed of participants from multiple national laboratories, to develop, maintain, and communicate a technical baseline for the experiment. Additionally, you may be responsible for partnering with domain experts throughout the DOE complex, including both scientists and engineers, to solicit input for the technical basis of the experimental requirements. This role will span the entire project lifecycle from product definition to retirement over four years. You will apply systems engineering principles to fit the risks and needs of this experiment.

This position will require willingness to travel up-to ~25% of the year, with extended trips possible.

Over time, you will work with cross-disciplinary teams to identify and conceptually develop new technical work within Sandia mission program area. This may be accomplished through participation and partnerships in future proposal calls. Your responsibilities will include: 1) increase both Sandias and their own impact and standing in these programs by producing high-quality results; 2) perform your work according to Sandia values, which include serving national needs, delivering with excellence, respect for others, teaming, and scientific integrity.

Required:

+ You hold a masters degree in Systems Engineering or another technical discipline with a Systems Engineering certification; equivalent experience and education may also be considered (BS+4 years; AS+8years; No Degree+12 years)
+ You have participated (team member or lead) in integrating complex systems or experiments
+ You can obtain a DOE Q clearance

+ Current clearance (DOE or DOD)
+ Ability to learn new concepts
+ Work effectively both individually and as a team member
+ Demonstrated experience integrating requirements designed by multiple domain experts
+ Demonstrated ability in translating scientific requirements to engineering requirements
+ Demonstrated experience with all aspects of a projects life-cycle
+ Demonstrated experience executing off-site field work
+ Demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team
+ Background experience in geosciences, geophysics, seismology, signal processing
+ Knowledge of systems engineering software tools, such as DOORs
+ Strong organizational, written, oral, and presentation skills

We advance analysis and algorithms for remote sensing support of the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS), Nuclear Effects for Survivability and Consequence Management, and Nuclear Forensics. Missions such as treaty verification, non-proliferation and nuclear force management, with respect to nuclear detonation detection, are supported by our modeling and software products using optical, particle (NGX), and radio-frequency phenomenologies. We serve as a laboratories R&D resource for nuclear signatures modeling, simulation, and analysis expertise.
