Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for a hardware oriented engineer who enjoys challenging technical problems, creating innovative solutions, and fielding those solutions. Job Duties:

The Georgia Tech Research Institute has opportunities for research engineers within the Sensor and Systems Engineering Division (SSED). SSED projects focus on developing hardware for a wide range of Department of Defense applications. Hardware development includes designing and building custom hardware, modifying existing hardware, implementing solutions using general purpose hardware, and re-purposing hardware. Applications primarily include radar, electronic warfare, and embedded signal processing but often span into communication systems, surveillance systems, and other remote sensing applications.

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • At least four months of relevant full-time work experience (this can include or be exclusively internships)

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of full-time work experience. 
  • Hobbies or extracurricular activities that contribute to the applicants technical ability

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
