Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Guided by our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity, NRC is a dynamic and vibrant organization that, in its ongoing evolution, is seeking four Digital Technology Research Professionals in the Digital Technology Research Centre.

 

The incumbents will apply their significant experience solving industrial or governmental challenges.  Their cross-disciplinary skills will augment those in NRC teams working in one or more digital technology application areas such as, but not limited to, artificial intelligence, distributed ledgers (e.g., blockchain), cybersecurity, data analytics, statistical machine translation, IOT, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, design, bioinformatics, and robotics.

Requirements

Education

Master’s degree from a recognized university in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Software Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Experience

  • Significant experience working within research and development teams, including multidisciplinary and multi-collaborator teams.
  • Experience in defining, refining and implementing functional requirements and specifications within projects.
  • Significant experience in at least two of the most widely used toolsets for the candidate’s specialization within Computer or Computational sciences. 
  • Experience in working with clients and colleagues to gather and document requirements.

  • Significant knowledge of one or more areas of application within digital technologies.
  • Ability to identify problems and conceptualize solutions for implementation or application.
  • Ability to deal with practical issues in software design such as scalability and usability of proposed solutions.
  • Ability to communicate problems and solutions verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to iteratively improve system performance.
  • Ability to gather and understand business requirements.
  • Knowledge of two or more programming or scripting languages such as, C/C++, Java, Perl, R, Python, or Shell, as well as libraries relevant to at least one subfield of digital technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of databases.
  • Basic knowledge of modern machine learning techniques.
