We have an opening for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work in a CLIA high-complexity laboratory conducting SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR molecular testing. You will perform diagnostic tests on clinical specimens while maintaining safe and compliant operations. This position is in the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level, depending on your qualifications. Additional job duties will be assigned at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Perform nucleic acid extractions and PCR analysis of clinical specimens in a CLIA high complexity testing laboratory.
- Maintain proficiency with testing procedures and associated documentation in compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements
- Provide solutions to problems with moderate complexity and contribute to writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintenance records.
- Prepare reagents and perform quality control evaluations to ensure process integrity
- Participate in required Proficiency Tests and technical validations in compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.
- Participate in preparing for annual safety inspections and maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional at the SES.3 Level
- Provide solutions to complex problems that require technical direction of high complexity test performance and provide
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintenance records
- Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure analytic performance and compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Current Generalist CLS License in the State of California.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in CLIA high-complexity testing in Microbiology/Virology, as well as data gathering and reporting.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with RNA Extraction, RT-PCR, and PCR,
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality control processes and procedures in clinical testing laboratory environment.
- Proficient verbal, written, and communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deliver presentations, prepare written reports and to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.
Qualifications at the SES.3 Level
- Masters degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.

- Advanced knowledge of and significant experience with RNA Extraction, RT-PCR, and PCR,
- Advanced knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality control processes and procedures in clinical testing laboratory environment.
- Advanced verbal, written, and communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deliver presentations, prepare written reports and to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with antibody and/or antigen assays.
- Ability to carry out experiments in Biosafety Level 2 laboratory.
- Ability to work and troubleshoot independently.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.
