Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute in Colorado Springs, CO, is seeking engineers and scientists to support research and development efforts focused on RF and optical sensors and on command, control, battle management, and communication systems applied in support of ballistic missile defense (BMD) and space situational awareness (SSA). Research and development tasks will address hardware, algorithms, and performance of RF and electro-optic and infrared (EO/IR) sensors and systems, target modeling to include ballistic missiles and satellites, electronic attack and protection, and environmental effects. Candidates will work from and report to the GTRI field office in Colorado Springs, CO with offices located within the Catalyst Campus.

Job Duties

  • Candidates will support and lead research activities that require sensor and systems analysis, performance prediction, algorithm development, and modeling and simulation
  • Candidates will document their research in technical briefings and reports and have the opportunity to interact with sponsors through program reviews
  • Candidates will support business development activities to include generation of briefings, white papers, and proposals and interaction with potential sponsors
  • Candidates will lead individual tasks or projects and be responsible for managing staff, funds, and deliverables

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and four (4) years of relevant full time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in engineering, math, or physics and 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Candidates are expected to be self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Candidates are expected to have a strong technical background and a desire to continually grow through research opportunities.
  • Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D. degree in engineering, math, or physics and 5 or more years of relevant experience.

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
