Job Description

A full-time, permanent position is available starting August 2019 for an RF/Communications Development Engineer in the Communication Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) of the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). CSSD currently has approximately 40 full time researchers and staff operating on about $15M of sponsored research per year. CSSD focuses on three research areas; communication systems, spectrum sensing, and communications electronic warfare (EW).

The communication systems research area includes activities in:

  • Development of deployable software defined radio (SDR) solutions for Military applications,
  • Design, development, and testing of communications networks,
  • Independent technical assessment of communication systems,
  • Test and evaluation systems.

Spectrum sensing research includes:

  • Development of spectrum monitoring systems,
  • Development of sensing algorithms for adaptive communications,
  • Development of algorithms for assessing interference or jamming signals,
  • Development of test assets, measurements, and algorithms for radio frequency propagation.

And communication EW activities are:

  • Research in software defined communication EW systems,
  • Independent technical assessment of communication EW systems,
  • Development of communication EW techniques,
  • Development of large-scale test sets for threat characterization, technique development, and performance assessment.

GTRI/ICL is seeking multiple highly motivated individuals with 1- 6 years of work experience to support design, development and testing of RF communications systems, waveforms, and protocols. The candidate will be required to use Software Defined Radios to develop RF communications systems. The candidate will also be tasked to develop new SDR algorithms to support new waveforms and systems, sensing of spectrum in the environment, and develop adaptive techniques for communications.

Technical disciplines/experience that may be required include strong communications theory background, RF spectrum sensing experience, development of algorithms for Software Defined Radios (SDR), and signal analysis experience focusing on the physical, data link and network layers. Skills in embedded system programming, or working with test and measurement equipment are a plus. The candidate will be expected to support sponsor briefings and prepare technical deliverables.
