What Your Job Will Be Like:

Center 5300 including ISR EM and Sensor Technologies Department is seeking an antenna design engineers to participate in the development of advanced RF systems and antenna designs and concepts in support of a broad range of ND, interagency, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and other programs and R&D initiatives.

On any given day, the successful candidate may be called upon to:

+ Analyze, design, and develop of RF/microwave circuits, subsystems, and modules

+ Design and develop both passive and active antenna structures

+ Negotiate technical and programmatic requirements with customers

+ Deliver hardware within schedule and budgetary constraints

Candidates are expected to have experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, and practices relating to RF/microwave and antenna design, to perform modeling and simulation in support of design and analysis activities, and to participate in experimental testing of completed designs. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s and Master’s or PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering or a relevant STEM discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience with relevant coursework in electromagnetic (EM) analysis, RF/microwave circuit design, and antenna design

+ Plus Five years’ engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

+ Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: antenna design, RF/microwave circuit design, RF/microwave system design.

+ Experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, SENTRI, IE3D, etc.

+ Experience with MATLAB, as well as other programming languages (C/C++, Python, Java, Fortran, etc.)

+ Familiarity with and experience in the use of RF/microwave test equipment (network analysis, spectrum analysis, noise measurements, etc.).

+ Ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.

+ Excellent communication and documentation skills.

+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

Experience with one or more of the following:

+ Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of one or more of the following: printed antennas, conformal antennas, RF communications architectures, RF front ends, low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, phase locked loops and synthesizers, mixers, filters, other RF components, etc.

+ Familiarity with and experience in the use of antenna measurement techniques (radiation pattern characterization on a compact range or near-field scanner, etc.).

+ Experience with RF circuit layout and RF PCB manufacturing techniques.

+ Experience in radar system development and radar hardware architectures.

+ Willingness to make independent contributions to diverse, multi-disciplinary team efforts.

+ Ability to effectively prioritize and make decisions.

+ Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams in the process of technology development and innovation.

+ Minimum GPA of 3.2 for bachelor’s degree and 3.5 for master’s degree (or PhD, as applicable)

+ Current possession of a DOE Q clearance.

In addition the ISR Electromagnetics (EM) & Sensor Technologies Department (5345) operates within the “Radar Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR)” business area to develop and field high-performance radar systems, and to support various Nuclear Deterrence (ND), National Security Programs (NSP), homeland security, and interagency programs and R&D initiatives. The department specializes in electromagnetic design, simulation, analysis, and testing activities, including antenna/radar design and development, radar-cross-section analysis, and RF systems engineering. In conjunction with these activities, the department maintains and operates various labs and testing facilities, including the “Facility for Antenna and RCS Measurements” (FARM). The FARM is a national resource and the premier Antenna and RCS measurement facility within the DOE complex.

Center 5300 provides key electronics systems deliverables to a wide variety of programs across Sandia (including nuclear weapons, space, intelligence and military systems) and also directly manages the Surveillance and Reconnaissance (S&R) Program.

Security Clearance:
