The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Smyrna, GA is seeking an RF Test Engineer who has an interest in intellectually challenging and rewarding work. This opportunity is with our Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL). SEAL projects focus on developing research and development (R&D) hardware for a wide range of Department of Defense applications which primarily include radar, electronic warfare, and embedded signal processing but often span into communication systems, surveillance systems, and other remote sensing applications. SEAL is seeking a highly-motivated RF test engineer whose responsibilities will include RF and DC component testing, detailed test plan development, data processing, and analysis, report generation, laboratory and field testing, and system integration. The ideal candidate loves RF hardware, is interested in the integration of RF hardware into larger systems, and has excellent communication and leadership skills.

Job Duties

  • Perform tests against RF equipment (including network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, power meter, signal generator, AWG, etc.)
  • Perform analysis of RF test data (including S-parameters, power measurements, spectrum/harmonics/spurs, amplifier efficiency, and saturated drive curves, etc)
  • Perform Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatability (EMI/EMC)  testing including MIL-STD-461 (a US Military Standard describing how to test equipment for EMC)
  • Perform environmental compliance testing including MIL-STD-810 (a US Military Standard describing how to test equipment against drops/shocks)
  • Perform DC and digital testing of interfaces

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • At least 2 years of relevant full-time work experience (this can include or be exclusively internships) related to RF testing and data analysis, RF modeling and simulation, or similar RF-centric subject
  • The successful candidate will take an interest in how the RF subsystem fits into the larger system as a whole. Therefore, the successful candidate will be comfortable interfacing with engineers in other disciplines and have an interest in related fields such as firmware/software development, embedded systems, mechanical and thermal engineering, signal processing, antenna design, and/or system engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field of study
  • At least 4 years of full-time work experience (this can include internships) related to RF testing and data analysis, RF modeling and simulation, or similar RF-centric subject
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience and proficiency with leading small teams
  • Hobbies or extracurricular activities that contribute to the applicant's technical ability

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
