The lab research activity focuses on enabling integration of next generation radio transceivers in deeply-scaled CMOS technologies. We drive innovation in architecture, radio building-blocks and design methodologies to achieve beyond state-of-the-art performance and maintain Moore's law scaling for both digital and RF/analog circuitry. The focus of this specific position is to develop integrated circuitry for control and readout of quantum bits (qubits) to enable future scaling of quantum computers. These control signals are in the range of microwaves (1-20GHz) and typical architectures used today resemble RF transceivers or RF arbitrary waveform generators.

In this unique research position, your responsibility may include:

  • Research into current state-of-the-art discrete RF/AWG architectures used for qubits control
  • Investigate minimum signal specifications, architectures and circuit design for RF/AWG systems for qubit control and readout to be integrated in deeply-scaled CMOS technologies and operate at very low temperatures (4K and below)
  • Develop high-level behavioral models to validate proposed system architectures
  • Design and validate circuit blocks and entire systems with RF/mixed signal design environment like Cadence
  • Participate into experimental verifications and measurements of fabricated silicon prototypes
  • Hands-on work on qubit experiments using both external and integrated controllers.

This is an entry level position and compensation will be given accordingly.


You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences

Minimum qualifications:

  • The candidate must possess a Masters degree or PhD degree or an equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on RF circuit design; at least one successful RF/analog/mixed-signal circuit tape-out completed in an advanced process technology

3+ years of experience in below areas:

  • Very familiar with overall silicon prototyping flow (design, validation, layout, tape-out, testing); knowledge and experience in high-level system design and validation with behavioral models (e.g. Matlab, Verilog, Veriloga, System Verilog, etc...);
  • knowledge and experience of architecture, design, implementation and verification of RF/mixed-signal systems that include circuit blocks such as LNAs, Mixers, PAs, PLLs, VCOs, ADCs, DACs
  • Good DSP/signal processing skills
  • Must have familiarity with a set of wireless or wireline communication specifications and derivation of block-level requirements from these high-level specifications; understanding of CMOS process and device physics; understanding of semiconductor packaging and post-silicon chip testing; hands-on experience with RF/analog/mixed-signal testing in the lap.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of electro-magnetic modeling and simulation tools
  • Basic understanding of quantum computing; good overall understanding of current state-of-the-art for qubit design, fabrication and control (preferred focus on spin qubits)
  • Hands-on experience with qubit characterization and control with dilution refrigerators and room lab-grade control electronics.

Work Model for this Role

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site.
