Salary Range:

$86,300 - $166,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a creative and hardworking Risk Analyst in the R&D Mechanical Engineering job title. The selected candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team of scientists, engineers, researchers, and staff to find solutions in a wide range of research areas. The work will support high-consequence risk in alternative fuels, nuclear power, and other critical infrastructures.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Conduct research in various risk-related technologies including probabilistic risk assessment, applied statistics, and other work related to risk management

+ Apply a variety of standard risk methods on new and emerging technologies

+ Develop tools and methodologies to help promote safety in a wide variety of nationwide applications Work with internal and external teams to provide technical justification to improve safety laws, codes, and standards

+ Infrequent travel (when applicable and safe based on current restrictions and guidelines), including some potential international travel, to present and discuss technical results

+ Disseminate research findings through reports, professional presentations, and journal articles based on modeling and experimental research

+ Support an inclusive work environment, where all members of the workforce are actively valued, listened to, and trusted

Qualifications We Require:

+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mathematics, or other closely related field

+ Experience with various risk methodologies such as numerical analysis, probabilistic risk analysis, statistical analysis, or probabilistic reasoning

+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Proven experience developing and using risk tools and methodologies

+ Record of producing technical reports or articles and presentations at technical meetings or professional conferences

+ Experience with alternative fuels such as hydrogen or natural gas

+ Experience in the nuclear power area, uncertainty analysis, and system modeling

+ Experience with a programming language (such as Python) and development software (e.g., Git)

+ Experience with safety laws, codes, and standards

+ Formal training or course work in risk assessment

About Our Team:

The Risk & Reliability Analyses department conducts risk related work to high consequence systems, including alternative fuels, nuclear facilities, critical infrastructures, advanced energy systems, and other national security related work. Risk work in this department currently supports research into probabilistic risk assessments and analysis, fire risk analysis, and other risk - related work. The focus of the department's efforts is on research related to operational risk and risk analysis of high-consequence engineered systems to various threats including system failure mechanisms, reliability issues, kinetic threats, and naturally occurring events. The department's client base includes the Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other federal and non-federal entities.

Security Clearance:
