Robotics Researcher -- Motion Planning

Omron is looking for researchers passionate about developing smart robot technologies that can be used enable breakthrough advances in human/machine interaction and intelligent automation. Included in the list of opportunities is a position in Robotics Motion Planning Research. Based in the newly opened Omron Research Center of America (ORCA) in San Ramon, CA, this position will report to the ORCA Director.


  • Work with a team of peers to innovate, develop and promote new robotics technologies.
  • Architect, develop and establish viability of new algorithms, in close cooperation with leading robot manufacturer Omron Adept Technologies.
  • Seek synergy with other aspects of Omron's diverse business portfolio in industrial automation, social systems, automotive and health products.
  • Engage in collaborative R&D with leading research centers, universities and partner companies.
  • Stay on the cutting edge, maintaining a keen understanding of innovative technologies in the robotics field, and developing high value IP with other Omron researchers.
  • Represent Omron in a professional, ethical, and socially responsible manner.


  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automation and robotics technology research and development.
  • Deep understanding of 2D/3D motion planning theory as it relates to global trajectory optimization for multi-axis robots.
  • Understanding of global trajectory variables (space, time, torque, sensory feedback) as they relate to specific robot architectures and applications.
  • Understanding of optimization strategies needed when dynamic obstacles are encountered and avoidance/coexistence measures are needed.
  • Good working knowledge of AI technologies and applications.
  • Broad understanding of robot architectures and control methodologies.
  • Solid algorithm prototyping and coding skills (Requisite: Matlab/Python, C/C++).
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively to fellow researchers, and business-minded stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship builder.
