Safeguards & Security (S&S) Planning & Operations Specialist (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking a proactive and team-oriented Safeguards and Security (S&S) Planning and Operations specialist to provide document control and other configuration management support to S&S programs. On any given day, you may be called upon to:

+ Develop and publish S&S reports
+ Facilitate collaborative efforts among interdisciplinary subject matter experts across the S&S programs.
+ Review and report on performance metrics in web-based tools such as SharePoint.
+ Interpret information , advising management and recommending actions regarding issues.
+ Assist document owners with creation, revision, and maintenance of S&S controlled documents, which include technical content associated with all security disciplines.
+ Advise document owners regarding their document-control responsibilities.
+ Assist document owners, as appropriate, in coordinating review-and-approval of controlled documents.
+ Edit controlled documents (upon request and when practicable).
+ Maintain the discreet set of controlled documents that specifically convey document-control requirements.
+ Maintain tools and job aids that guide document owners regarding their document-control responsibilities.
+ Facilitate retirement of obsolete controlled documents.
+ Maintain the S&S Controlled Documents Library to ensure content is accessible to those who need it.
+ Ensure all S&S controlled documents are properly filed in EIMS FileNet.


+ Bachelors degree in Business, Communications, Technical Writing, Security, or relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Ideally, your background would also include:

+ Experience with configuration management (to include document control), MS Word, Excel, and SharePoint
+ Demonstrated ability to:

- Successfully coordinate and complete multiple projects and tasks
- Exercise initiative and work independently on multiple concurrent activities to meet a variety of customer requirements with changing priorities and short deadlines
- Apply critical-thinking skills to synthesize disparate detailed data into useful information, such as developing information for reports and presentations
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex issues both in writing and verbally
+ Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to initiate work, solve problems, and achieve results with minimal direction and supervision
+ Continuous program- and process-improvement skills
+ Familiarity with Sandia programs, policies, organizations, procedures, and administrative systems

Department Description:

The Security Outreach department is part of Sandias Safeguards & Security (S&S) Center, whose primary function is protection and support of Sandias mission, information, resources, and people. We strive to develop strategic partnerships and provide effective tools and resources to fully integrate security into every aspect of the work performed at Sandia. We are comprised of Security Connection, Security Awareness, S&S Training, Operations Security (OPSEC), and S&S Policy/Controlled Documents. We are responsible for providing information and assistance that all Members of the Workforce need to perform their work in a secure manner. Information is disseminated via the Security Connection knowledgebase, in Security Awareness briefings, through security-related training, via Laboratory Policy and S&S controlled documents, and through interaction and assessment of activities via the OPSEC Program.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
