We have an opening for a Senior Electro-optics Engineer. You will contribute to the design and deployment of electro-optical diagnostics for Shock Physics experiments at several facilities in the United States, including the High Explosives Application Facility (HEAF) in Livermore and Joint Actinide Shock Physics Experiment Research (JASPER) Facility in Nevada. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the SES.3 level or SES.4 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide complex electro-optical diagnostic design solutions to include platform development, analysis, and qualification processes.
- Execute systems engineering processes to include requirements development, interface definitions, and verification activities.
- Develop and produce advanced conceptual and detail designs that meet technical requirements.
- Provide customers with engineering solutions for a wide range of complex engineering challenges associated with execution of ongoing programmatic activities including the generation of planning documents, reports, and presentations as required to support customer deliverables.
- Manage project interfaces and deployment interfacing with other organizations internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Serve on cross-cutting technical teams or project teams in support of the stockpile stewardship mission of the Laboratory.
- Provide guidance and technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams in a growing, dynamic environment.
- Travel approximately 25-30% to deploy diagnostics and lead experiments, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the SES.4 Level
- Set broad project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for self and others.
- Provide highly complex Electro-optics design and analysis.
- Present, explain, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors and guide team building and conflict resolution.

Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of electronics and electro-optical design and systems engineering.
- Significant experience in prototype development and testing, as well as hardware design and analysis.
- Significant experience devising creative solutions for unique and complex problems.
- Ability and flexibility to reprioritize and change programmatic direction depending on emergent requests.
- Experience delivering on multiple projects on budget and on schedule.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to present concepts and ideas in a clear and coherent manner for presentation and interaction with other technical staff members.

In Addition at the SES.4 Level
- Subject matter expertise in highly complex electronics and electro-optical design and analysis and significant experience in project planning and providing technical leadership.
- Significant experience developing and implementing creative solutions to a diverse range of highly complex problems and leading corrective actions where necessary.
- Significant experience effectively leading teams internally and externally addressing multiple tasks simultaneously with competing priorities.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with light sources, light detectors, and light transmission components design.
- Experience with digital cameras, spectrometers, interferometers, Pulse and delay generators, and streak cameras design.
- Experience with VISIO, IGOR, Matlab, IDL, and Excel software.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
