Senior Manager, R&D Science and Engineering (5910)

We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented Senior Manager, R&D Science and Engineering, to lead Org 5910, System and Technology Assessment, which is part of Center 5900, Proliferation Assessments, under the Threat Intelligence Community (TIC) umbrella along with Center 5600.

On any given day, your responsibilities may entail:

+ Team with the Senior Managers and Director in the Center and the Threat Intelligence Community to develop and implement the vision and strategies for the future;
+ Build and nurture collaborative relationships within Sandia, with Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, and with trusted partners at other government agencies.
+ Provide the leadership and oversight for the group, as well as be accountable for negotiated milestones and deliverables which requires the development of overall program and project plans, budgets, schedules and staffing requirements.
+ Lead, develop, and energize the managers and staff in Group 5910;
+ Attract, engage and develop high-performing teams;
+ Support your managers with personnel, safety, or security issues.
+ Meet with key customers and other partners, locally or at remote locations to maintain and build relationships and programs.
+ Engage in growth opportunities - technical, leadership, managerial, etc.
+ Mentor others

This position requires moderate domestic travel and is primarily on-site.


The following criteria are required to be considered minimally qualified for this role:

+ Possess an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a science or engineering field, or equivalent experience.
+ Have 10 or more years of relevant experience
+ Management and leadership experience
+ Have a DOE Q security clearance or DOD equivalent and be able to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance (which may require a polygraph test)


Ideally, we would like to see your experience include some of the following:

+ Experience with SPP and SIPP processes and related NNSA requirements.
+ Experience with Nuclear Weapons.
+ Experience developing intelligence reports.
+ R&D experience in modeling and simulation for nuclear weapons applications.
+ Experience working with LANL and LLNL.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop and empower employees, manage personnel issues and resolve differences constructively
+ Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Current SCI clearance.
+ Demonstrated management, program management and/or leadership skills
+ Demonstrated abilities to integrate a diverse workforce while supporting a collaborative environment
+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing positive relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers
+ Experience with managing capabilities.
+ Experience working with the Intelligence Community, DoD, or other similar government agencies

Department Description:

5910 consists of four departments that provide strategic technical intelligence assessments of adversary WMD capabilities to the USG’s executive branch, Congress, policy makers, and the military. There are strong ties between the four Groups in the Center and within the Threat Intelligence Community requiring close collaboration and communication with the management teams. 5910’s differentiating strength is engaging national laboratory-class experimental and computational capabilities in order to provide assessments with the highest possible confidence levels. We seek to develop new technologies to improve assessments and to be early adopters of other new technology. We seek to share all the capabilities we develop with the USG’s broad assessments' community to enhance the confidence of assessments community-wide. Historically, over half our funding goes to collaborations within Sandia requiring close collaboration with a variety of organizations. Security is of extreme importance in this group. Your time will be focused on the future of the TIC, the Center, and your Group, with an emphasis on leadership development for you and your Group and development of capabilities to support future challenges while executing on current needs.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
