Senior Manager, R&D Science and Engineering (5970)

We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented Senior Manager, R&D Science and Engineering, to lead Org 5970, Tailored Operational Support Group, which is part of Center 5900, Proliferation Assessments, under the Threat Intelligence Community (TIC) umbrella along with Center 5600. 5970 consists of four departments that provide solutions to a variety of government sponsors, primarily in the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. There are strong ties between the four Groups in the Center and within the Threat Intelligence Community requiring close collaboration and communication with the management teams. Projects require thoughtful engineering and meticulous management, requiring strong networks and multidisciplinary teams within the Laboratories. The group has multiple labs in several buildings requiring capability nurturing and a focus on ES&H. Security is of extreme importance in this group. Program management in additional to developing and diversifiying the portfolio are significant parts of the position. This senior manager co-leads the development and evolution of Intelligence Science at the Laboratories level requiring strategy development and implementation, outreach across the Laboratories and the broader community, and a deep understanding of foundational research to operations. This senior manager also co-leads the Intelligence Science for Proliferation LDRD Investment Area Team under the National Security Programs Mission Foundation. Your time will be focused on the future of Intelligence Science, the TIC, the Center, and your Group, with an emphasis on leadership development for you and your Group and development of capabilities to support future challenges while executing on current needs.

On any given day, your responsibilities may entail:

+ Define and provide the strategic direction for new technologies and capabilities;
+ Define and lead the Intelligence Science initiative for the Laboratories;
+ Team with the Senior Managers and Director in the Center and the Threat Intelligence Community to develop and implement the vision and strategies for the future;
+ Provide the leadership and oversight for the group, as well as, be accountable for negotiated execution and deliverables;
+ Build and nurture relationships and partnerships with other organizations across the laboratories;
+ Lead, develop, and energize the managers and staff in Group 5970;
+ Attract, engage and develop high-performing teams;
+ Support your managers with personnel, safety, or security issues.
+ Meet with key customers and other partners, locally or at remote locations to maintain and build relationships and programs.
+ Engage in growth opportunities - technical, leadership, managerial, etc.
+ Mentor others

The following criteria are required to be considered minimally qualified for this role:

+ Possess an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a science or engineering field or equivalent relevant experience/education
+ Have 10 or more years of relevant experience
+ Have a DOE Q security clearance or DOD equivalent and are able to obtain an SCI clearance (which may require a polygraph test)

+ Experience leading LDRD portfolios
+ Experience with writing proposals for new technical work and interacting with customers
+ The ability to balance priorities, resources, and multiple sponsors
+ Current SCI clearance

Department Description:

Center 5900, Proliferation Assessments is part of the Threat Intelligence Community along with Center 5600, Information Operations. Together we address a wide range of threats to the United States through deep understanding of science and technology and understanding the art of the possible. Center 5900 consists of four Groups with deep capability and knowledge that support government objectives. Group 5970 consists of four departments, for a total of approximately 70 people. The Group develops hardware and software solutions to meet national security challenges. The team is multidisciplinary and multiorganizational.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
