Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking to hire a senior radar hardware engineer or scientist in Huntsville, AL, who will serve on the Persistent Discrimination Radar Hardware Integrated Product Team (IPT) supporting two or more Missile Defense Agency (MDA) radar procurements. The candidate will serve as a Hardware IPT subject matter expert (SME) for state-of-the-art Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) radar development. The Hardware IPT is composed of systems engineering and technical advisory support contractors.

The candidate will support each BMD radar program Chief Engineer in executing the program’s technically-rigorous assessment and evaluation of each prime contractor’s design, development, integration, test, and delivery of new BMD radar's analog and digital hardware components. The hardware SME will perform these functions within the Missile Defense Agency spaces on Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville, AL.

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar technical area and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar technical area and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar technical area and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar technical area and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Physics, or similar technical area and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience in systems and radar hardware design, development, integration, and test
  • Familiarity with radar, RF, and digital hardware concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20-30 years of experience in radar hardware design, development, integration, and testing
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Familiarity with writing and interpreting specifications for radar systems and implementing Department of Defense systems engineering processes
