Position Summary

The Senior Server Patching & Support Administrator is a hands-on tactical role primarily responsible for patching, troubleshooting and maintaining the Bank’s server environments located within our two data centers and in the Amazon cloud (AWS). This role will support administering the Windows 2012/2016 Active Directory infrastructure and supporting toolsets; Citrix, VMware, CommVault Backup, Ivanti Patching, Symantec Anti-virus. As part of our cloud strategy, the incumbent must embrace a DevOps agile methodology, working collaboratively across technology teams with a great deal of flexibility. This role is based in our Boston, MA office with occasional work performed at both of our data centers in the Eastern Massachusetts region, Westborough & Waltham. This role requires some evening support and schedule flexibility for one Saturday a month using a pre-determined annual schedule.

This position is classified as sensitive due to the nature of the work and access.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

  • Function as the primary server patching administrator for the Windows Server 2012/2016 environments ensuring the monthly patching process is completed according to a streamlined and well-documented process.  
  • Available to perform monthly production patching 1 Saturday per month, based on the pre-set annual schedule. Available to perform on-call support after hours.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and work with our technology colleagues and/or vendors when necessary to ensure the server environments function properly.
  • Responsible for and carrying out routine maintenance activities for the Windows infrastructure, physical as well as virtualized servers.
  • Partner with Information Security to ensure all server vulnerabilities are remediated with an appropriate sense of urgency. This includes follow-up for patches that failed to install correctly as well out of band patches requiring installation.
  • Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service, (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.
  • Configure and install new servers, devices and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with managing servers remotely using tools such as RDP, Citrix, VPNs.
  • Perform and adhere to change management requirements.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support and carry a bank-issued smart phone to respond to off hours support issues that are urgent.
  • Provide detailed, professional technical documentation such as environment diagrams, process flows, and procedures.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Education

 

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred, but relevant work experience is required.

 

Knowledge & Experience

 

  • 5-7 years of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 operating system administration, configuration and support.
  • Prior experience working collaboratively, demonstrating a desire to solve problems and strong attention to detail is critical to success in this role.
  • 2+ years of administering Active Directory and Global Policies.
  • 2+ years of Windows Server patching administration in a virtualized server environment (VMware).
  • Knowledge of SAN is beneficial, but not required.
  • Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn IaaS, DevOps methodologies.
  • Basic familiarity of the AWS cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation is desired.
  • Ability to commute to our two data centers, Westborough and Waltham, as needed.
