Salary Range:



$98,300 - $190,100



*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.



What Your Job Will Be Like:



We are seeking software engineers (R&D Computer Science) to join our dynamic development team at Sandia in support of our important national security missions! We are conducting software engineering in a multi-disciplinary research environment. You will have access to our pioneering parallel-computing environment. We expect that on any given day, the selected candidate may be called on to:





+ Design and implement software for decision support and for command-and-control systems



+ Work both independently and across distributed teams to produce these solutions



+ Seek technical requirements from engineering peers, leads, and project stakeholders



+ Detect, diagnose, and resolve software bugs



+ Develop efficient and robust software solutions to technical problems that can be easily maintained by future engineers



+ Quickly gain expertise in new technical areas, and assist peers in those areas



+ Participate in various planning, daily standup team meetings, demos, and retrospectives, per the project's software development lifecycle process



+ Present progress and results to engineering peers, project leads, and management





Qualifications We Require:





+ Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development



+ Software design and development experience in object-oriented languages such as Java, C#, or C++



+ Experience with software design and architecture



+ Working knowledge of data structures and algorithms for software development such as: queues, linked lists, tree structures, hash tables, runtime analysis, and others



+ Experience using software revision control tools such as git, subversion, etc. in a configuration-controlled software development environment



+ Experience designing and implementing user interfaces





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Ability to hold a DOE Q security clearance



+ Ability to work independently in a distributed team environment



+ Experience with Java, JavaFX, and/or the Spring framework



+ Experience with agile methodologies and agile software development through Scrum, Kanban, etc.



+ Experience designing, implementing, and querying databases, including SQL, NoSQL, postgresql, redis, and/or Oracle



+ Ability to create webpages with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript



+ Ability to use debugging tools, unit tests, and other capabilities to resolve complex software applications and libraries



+ Familiarity with deployment tools, including Maven, Gradle, CMake, Ansible, Jenkins, and/or Docker





About Our Team:



The Quantitative Modeling and Analysis Department conducts research, development, and systems engineering in computer science and engineering to address important, complex national security problems. Key research areas include uncertainty quantification, optimization, inference modeling, data analysis, and algorithm development. Much of our application development work focuses on verification, validation and uncertainty quantification of complex problems. We provide trusted design and software development for large, operations software as well as detailed scientific computing software. The work is focused on providing efficient, validated information and technologies for use in predictive modeling and decision making.

Security Clearance:
