The Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs group (CELA) is responsible for some of the most exciting projects that are centered on protecting people online. Our group acts on the vision to create a safer digital experience for every person and organization on the planet. The DCU's global team of engineers, analysts, forensic specialists, data scientists, attorneys, and business professionals share the common focus to build and deliver on this vision. We are the epicenter of the company’s battle against malware, strategic IP enforcement, and technology-facilitated child exploitation and tech support fraud. Our Cybercrime Center contains state-of-the-art crime labs, and dedicated space for customers, partners, law enforcement, and academic experts to fight cybercrime in partnership with DCU.

The DCU engineering team is a small, collaborative, Agile team and we're looking for a Software Engineers to join our mission. You will engage with small nimble teams to develop innovative engineering solutions that will ensure the high-fidelity information, technology, and tools are available for fighting cybercrime using only the most cutting-edge strategies and state-of-the-art cloud technologies that leverage the awesome scale and functionality of Azure.

This is a unique opportunity within Microsoft to work in a dynamic team, apply your technical skills to empower analysts and investigators to keep our digital world safe for consumers and businesses across the globe.

The successful candidate will be passionate about developing software and building the infrastructure necessary to provide an environment that our investigators and analysts will use to solve challenges. You will use Big Data and Cloud Computing Technologies as you work hand-in-hand with our Program Managers, Analysts, Investigators and Innovations teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new tools and data infrastructure leveraging Azure technologies and services (including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL and Data Warehouse, DataLake, Event Hubs, Azure Functions, Cognitive Toolkit, PowerBI) to solve critical cybercrime business problems providing value incorporating Machine Learning, AI, Neural Networks, and BI technologies
  • Innovate with team stakeholders to rapidly build solutions for effective and efficient analyst and investigative insights
  • Investigate and promote new technologies to help solve analytic problems simply and efficiently
  • Maintain the projects using AGILE/SCRUM methodologies

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience developing software
  • Proficiency with Agile and/or Scrum project methodologies
  • Solid coding, design and debugging skills with C# or Java
  • Curiosity with a desire to continuously learn and collaborate to improve yourself and your teammates
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, adapt and prioritize in fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with others
  • Passion to learn new technologies and architect innovative cloud based solutions to challenging problems

Preferred Skills And Qualifications

  • Experience building reliable, scalable and secure services
  • Multi-project, end-to-end experience across a wide spectrum of cloud services and technologies (preferably Azure)
  • Experience with Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) development (Azure experience is a huge plus)
  • Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Azure Blob Storage or similar distributed storage technology
  • Working knowledge of modern engineering best practices, including automated testing, continuous integration and deployment/monitoring for cloud services
  • Azure Machine Learning and advanced analytics infrastructure experience
  • Scripting experience in Python
  • Experience developing UI front end functionality including PowerBI or other technologies
