Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking research engineers or scientists in Boston, MA with expertise in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning and virtual/augmented reality. Candidates will support SEAL’s Command and Control Communication Program Office (C3PO) in the analysis, technology assessment and prototyping of C2 nodes and platforms. Candidates will manage and support teams designing analysis and implementation of alternative hardware and software technologies to update these nodes and in the prototyping of next generation technologies. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

In addition to performing applied research, candidates are expected to manage research efforts and to support business development activities. Business development includes the identification of research topics, conceptualization and formulation of research efforts, interaction with potential sponsors, and writing white papers and proposals. Candidates will be expected to direct research in a team
setting and to manage resources and budgets. Researchers are expected to be able to work independently as well as in teams. Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey one's research to both internal and external customers on a regular basis.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning and/or augmented/virtual reality development
  • Proficient in MATLAB, Mathematica, C or similar languages
  • Proficient in object-oriented programming languages like Java, C++ or similar languages
  • One or more years of experience managing technical teams
  • Experience presenting research in front of customers and peers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • Ideal candidate has relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Software system engineering
    • Software testing
    • AGILE process

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
