Purpose and Objective: SAP Labs, LLC seeks a Software Engineering Lead at our Palo Alto, CA office location (and various client sites nationwide) responsible for backend engineering of a microservice-based, machine learning platform product using Docker containers, Redis message queues, PostgreSQL databases, and NLP services on SAP HANA Text Analysis, SpaCy, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow (30%).


Expectations and Tasks: Coordinate engineering efforts as part of the SAP Leonardo Conversational AI Foundation project with a globally distributed Scrum team of Software Engineers, regular onboarding, knowledge transfer, and task distribution. Supervision and management of planning, hiring, and onboarding of interns, trainees, and full-time members (50%). Responsible for the continuous collaboration with internal stakeholders and external customers by planning and executing regular meetings and workshops (10%). Attend company-internal, as well as, external Software Engineering Lead conferences representing the team and product (10%). 10% travel required to client sites nationwide.


Education and Qualifications/Skills and Competencies: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field of study and 1 year of experience required. The company will also accept a Master's degree and 0 years of experience.


Work Experience: Experience or coursework must involve: Agile Software Development Processes, Software Engineering & Architectures, Software Modeling, Enterprise Software Systems & Databases, Web Technologies, and Project Management; interviewing and onboarding interns and full-time resources; coordination of work packages for front-end and back-end engineers; and conceptualization and deployment of cloud-based, microservice architectures. Experience must involve productization of machine learning algorithms; Natural Language understanding technologies for enterprise scenarios; Implementation of enterprise-grade proof of concepts and prototypes using technologies such as OData and In-Memory Database Systems; and Programming & Web Frameworks in Python (Django, Tornado, or Flask), JavaScript (Node.js & Polymer or Angular), Java and SQL. Experience must involve ML Frameworks such as Tensorflow or scikit-learn, and NLP/Text Processing Frameworks such as SAP HANA Text Analysis, CoreNLP, NLTK, or SpaCy, and In-Memory Databases such as SAP HANA. Employer will accept a three-year degree or a combination of degrees or diplomas as meeting the Bachelor's degree requirement. 10% travel required to client sites nationwide.
