Software Quality Engineer – Active Security Clearance Required

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Livermore, CA 94550

We have multiple openings for Software Quality Engineers (SQE) to support the LEP and Modernization efforts. The LEPs and Modernization Programs are producing weapon and weapon-related software/firmware that requires a high-level of rigor to maintain SQA compliance, which includes meeting both Institutional SQA standards, as well as NNSA-driven Product Realization Process (PRP) standards. You will work on establishing/maintaining a framework for consistently managing all phases of the software product lifecycle, as well as establishing/maintaining processes that enable end-to-end traceability from requirements to source code to test cases/results, while working with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of firmware developers and engineers. You will be responsible for ensuring that SQA processes are followed and met to the rigor of the Risk Grading assigned to each project and maintaining the large volume of SQA and PRP support documents. This position is in the Applications, Simulations, and Quality (ASQ) Division within the Computing Directorate; reporting programmatically to the WCI SQA Manager.

In this role you will

  • Independently apply comprehensive domain, system and/or process knowledge to establish processes that facilitate management of all phases of the software development lifecycle, considering rigorous SQA standards associated with weapon and weapon-related software.
  • Provide technical and domain knowledge, performing analysis, advising, and recommending technical solutions and approaches to moderately complex problems that may not be well defined to effectively execute SQA-driven processes.
  • Oversee and provide input and recommendations to product realization teams in the responsibilities and requirements associated with properly executing the documented SQA processes.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the WCI SQA Manager, Product Realization Team (PRT) Leads, and Institutional SQA Office for all software/firmware requiring Mark Quality acceptance to ensure consistency and compliance with both Institutional SQA and NNSA-driven standards.
  • Develop and maintain SQA documentation, which is reviewed and updated as needed.
  • Participate in the management of software requirements, system issues and enhancement requests, including facilitation of all change control board (CCB) meetings and dispositioning of all change requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience in a security discipline(s).

  • Comprehensive knowledge of product lifecycle management and configuration management.
  • Broad experience with the Product Realization Process, including a core understanding of the Defense Program Business Process Standards.
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities.
  • Ability to provide innovative solutions to broadly defined tasks and problems and to interact with system developers.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information and provide advice to management.

Qualifications We Desire
