Solutions Architect (Experienced)

We are seeking a highly experienced Unix/Linux Solutions Architect. The successful candidate will have extensive Red Hat, VMWare, and Windows Server experience. You will be responsible for researching, designing, and implementing computing solutions to enable Sandias intelligence mission.

This position is located at Sandia/Albuquerque.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain servers, VDI, and other IT assets. Coordinate efforts across sites and keep customers informed of repairs, work, and resolutions.
+ Upgrade RHEL servers, workstations, and integrating different technologies.
+ Building, configuring, and documenting Red Hat Satellite Servers and Linux workstations.
+ Perform System Administrator duties and provide server support.
+ Research, prototype, architect and design solutions for effective operation of mission enabling information systems. Develop strategic solutions that position Sandia for future mission work.
+ Responsible for resolving issues that require architectural changes.
+ Ensure that IT equipment is properly accredited.
+ Purchase, track, and maintain IT-related property.
+ Create, maintain, and document processes and procedures.
+ Interface with internal and external customers to support general operations of the FIE IT infrastructure.
+ Identify risks and risk-reduction strategies while balancing performance, cost, and schedule for different technical options.


+ Bachelor's degree in Computing, Engineering, or Science discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years or more of relevant experience.
+ Extensive experience with Linux Red Hat administration and at least 5 years of experience with Unix/Linux command shell scripting.
+ VMWare administration experience.
+ Understanding of software integration into RHEL servers and workstations.
+ Wide-ranging and in-depth experience with, expert knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to apply information systems technologies.
+ Excellent project management and troubleshooting skills.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI security clearance that may require a polygraph.


Ideally, your background will also include all or some of the following:

+ Excellent knowledge of ongoing trends in the information systems field and the ability to understand and work with new and emerging technologies.
+ Knowledge of information systems engineering tools and techniques, development, application, and management.
+ Knowledge and experience with administration and management of servers, workstations, and storage systems that provide enterprise-wide services in Linux/ Windows environments.
+ Experience with VMware and other virtual environments. Experience deploying DaaS systems.
+ Experience with Fiber Channel Zoning, VMWare Datastores, and Windows/ Linux volume management.
+ Experience and knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and DNS.
+ Knowledge and application of Disaster Recovery strategies including replication and backup software for the protection and recovery of systems and data.
+ Experience in multiple scripting languages.
+ Ability and willingness to learn additional operating systems and networking environments.
+ Knowledge and experience in hardware and physical connectivity of networks and other systems.
+ Experience with deploying and administering systems in a high-security production environment.
+ Proven ability to perform as a strong individual contributor within a multidisciplinary team.
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills across all levels of an organization.
+ Ability to develop and nurture effective relationships internal and external to the organization.
+ Active Q or SCI security clearance.

Department Description:

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community (IC). As part of the FIE Operations team, the Information Technology Services infrastructure department enables the reliable and timely delivery of secure IT products and services to satisfy the unique requirements of the IC. Our IT products and services include servers, virtual environments, desktops, networking, storage and applications.

Security Clearance:
