What Your Job Will Be Like:





Are you seeking an opportunity to support national security in an innovative and synergetic work environment? Join us at a Solutions Architect to lead architecting of several key nuclear deterrence initiatives involving engagement across multiple information system domains such as information assurance, hardware, networking, and systems security.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Meet with customers to determine information systems requirements and develop solutions that may be commercial-of-the-shelf, open source, or internally-developed domain options.



+ Use your software engineering skills to plan, design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain robust and highly available systems and applications.



+ Support project management and development of new methods in any of the information system solutions you support.



+ Partner with developers, technical leads, and customers to develop strategic vision, design solutions, and deliver high quality and easy-to-use software applications.



+ Develop solutions to sophisticated problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.



+ Resolve issues that require architectural changes and provide architectural direction for information systems.



+ Engage in cross-system collaboration to define interfaces between systems.



+ Identify risks and risk-reduction strategies to balance performance, cost, and schedule.



+ Challenge the status-quo in process and quality methodologies and drive improvements in these areas.



+ Seek opportunities to grow your skills and expand impact of the team’s capabilities.



+ Mentor and coach others.



+ Support business continuity and disaster recovery efforts through technological innovation.





Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite at least 60% of the time.





Qualifications We Require:





+ Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other relevant technical field, plus six years' experience; OR Bachelor’s degree as stated plus ten years' experience



+ Experience architecting high availability and/or disaster recovery solutions



+ Active DOE Q Clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Experience in some of the following:



+ Nuclear Deterrence applications within the Product Realization Integrated Digital Enterprise (PRIDE)



+ Product Realization Lifecycle



+ Developing cross-site solutions within the Nuclear Security Enterprise



+ Leading teams and/or collaborating with customers as a software solutions architect



+ Java and/or JavaScript



+ Mongo, MySQL, and/or Oracle



+ Continuous delivery approaches to software development



+ Full software development process using iterative or agile methods







+ Willingness to drive and advance adoption of agile methodologies



+ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment



+ Excellent listening and communication skills



+ Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving abilities to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast-paced customer





About Our Team:



The Engineering Solutions Department (9351) is responsible for strategy, development and implementation of many of Sandia's nuclear weapons software engineering applications. This includes a broad spectrum of specialties supporting the engineering community including project leadership, requirements analysis, data modeling, system design, and application development. These classified applications are used at Sandia and throughout the Nuclear Security Enterprise.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
