Job Description

GTRI's Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) is seeking a graduate research student to start the fall 2018 semester. EOSL’s Space Situational Awareness graduate research assistant (SSA GRA) will work on a fast-paced program developing a modelling and simulation framework and associated algorithms for ground-based space observations. The individual will be responsible for developing and implementing a variety of different radiometric, geometric, orbital, optical, and thermal models, among others, to support algorithm design.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD at Georgia Tech in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Strong experience with C and MATLAB/Python programming languages
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience/Coursework with image processing
  • Prior experience in modelling at least one of the following: radiometry, optical systems, thermal analysis, orbital mechanics/coordinate system transformations
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Fortran and CUDA
  • Experience/Coursework in numerical analysis
  • Knowledge of satellite operations, construction, and design
  • Familiarity with targeting and tracking algorithms
  • Interest in astronomy and optical systems
  • Configuration management tools
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technically

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
