Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is seeking an Engineer/Scientist to support activities associated with space situational awareness and space control. The ideal candidate will have 25+ years of experience directly related to the projects and customers performing system engineering and advanced development of space situational awareness (SSA) and space control systems and subsystems.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in both management of large programs and technical leadership at the level of a chief engineer. The individual will have strong problem solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical problems. The candidate must have significant experience in addressing the full life cycle of space systems. This candidate should have demonstrated success in identifying and developing funded research as well as performing program management upon successful award.

The researcher will serve as an in bed at a government facility and will be the single face to the customer. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills in order to convey policy and vision. The ideal candidate must demonstrate technical knowledge of command, control, and communications systems, architecture definition and refinement, and electronic warfare. Direct knowledge of the functions, operations, and roles of a university-affiliated research center (UARC) is required.

 

 

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as a successful engineer or scientist in the SSA / space control domain serving as a lead investigator.
  • The candidate must have significant experience in proposal development and project management.
  • The candidate must able to maintain a positive customer relationship at the senior engineer level and have a documented history of successful customer interaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field of study.
