Special Components Laboratory Support Technologist (Experienced)

Albuquerque, NM 87102

We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Laboratory Support Technologist, who is able to take on responsibilities to support design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized components for national security applications. This position will support R&D activities including assembling and testing of development hardware. Data acquisition, data analysis and documentation are also a key element of a range of activities.

A successful candidate is detail oriented with a natural curiosity towards the world, open to working on a diverse set of problems with a wide range of personnel inside and outside the group and Sandia.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

+ Acquire and analyze data.
+ Develop, build, and maintain a variety of instruments, hardware ,and processes.
+ Perform calibrations, make adjustments, modifications, replacements, and conduct or coordinate repairs.
+ Work in a laboratory setting monitoring experiments and making and recording observations in support of the development and testing of power sources.
+ Support documentation efforts, including preparing data and information for scientific and engineering reports and publications.
+ Recommend and make modifications to components, processes, or test procedures to meet desired specifications.


+ Bachelors degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline; or equivalent experience.
+ Experience with utilization of instrumentation to measure and observe phenomena.
+ Experience in laboratory operations (e.g., set-up/maintenance/ownership).


+ Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
+ Examples of written documentation (e.g., work planning and control documents, lab operating procedures, test plans, or memos and reports).
+ Experience with troubleshooting systems, processes, and hardware.
+ Ability to read drawings, layouts, and other specifications.
+ Familiarity with power source technologies, principles, and operating characteristics.
+ Experience with power supply tester operation, interfacing with tester software, and ability to troubleshoot battery test equipment.
+ Demonstrated abilities with laboratory software, computer controlled test equipment, and basic proficiency in programming/software code (e.g., LabView).
+ Demonstrated ability and commitment to perform complex, hazardous operations safely.
+ Ability to take general direction and implement technical activities without detailed guidance or oversight.
+ Ability to work in a team environment with staff, technologists, support personnel, and vendors.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Department Description:

Organization 2549, Special Projects, is a part of the Power Sources Technology Group, working on high consequence technologies that support critical NW systems. We support the entire product life-cycle from development to production and legacy components.

Security Clearance:
