We Are:

Fermilab is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.

The Fermilab Particle Physics Division seeks a highly motivated Sr. Analog Design Engineer to join its Electrical Engineering Department. This group participates in the design, construction, and operations of leading-edge experiments including neutrino research, the Large Hadron Collider, and dark matter and dark energy experiments.

The selected candidate will be encouraged to work closely with project engineers and physicists during the design, test, and integration of various electrical and electronic components that are part of large detector systems. Specifically, the candidate will participate in the design of low noise front end electronics that process and digitize low level analog signals.

You Will

  • Perform analog circuit design with emphasis on low noise circuits
  • Perform analog circuit simulations using SPICE or equivalent
  • Design low voltage and high voltage power supplies and power conversion circuits
  • Design circuits using schematic capture using CAD software
  • Supervise the design of analog and mixed-signal circuit boards using CAD layout tools
  • Provide oversight of small production runs, working with outside vendors, in-house board checkout
  • Perform system integration and debugging, including noise abatement

We Are Looking For

  • BS in Electrical Engineering plus 8+ years or experience, or MSEE with 6+ years of demonstrated ability.
  • Experience in low noise analog design
  • Experience in system integration
  • Experience in supervising Printed Circuit Board layout
  • Experience with principles of printed circuit board fabrication and assembly
  • Readiness for working on challenging projects that may have tight schedules
  • Capability of working as part of a design team in a research and development environment
  • Experience with CAD/EDA design tools
  • Familiarity with principles of instrumentation
  • Strong computer skills and competence in performing analytical engineering calculations, in drawing schematics and in documentation
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Firmware and coding ability is a plus
  • Proficiency with programming languages to run on PCs for board checkout is desirable

The candidate must be capable of demonstrating good judgment and ability to perform independent research and learn or improve upon required skillsets listed under job responsibilities.

Relocation is available for this position

Physical Activity and Work Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work additional hours beyond the normal workdays and/or respond to emergency call-in.
  • Ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carrier both domestically and internationally.
  • Ability to travel between different work locations within the Fermilab site.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in areas designated as potentially oxygen deficient.

Fermilab is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Underrepresented groups/Women/Disabled/Veterans are encouraged to apply.
