We have an opening for a Sr. Fabrication Technician-Electronics/Fabrication Tech Specialist-Electronics. You will provide manufacturing and installation support to various Institutional Projects and Programs at LLNLs Site-300 facility. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 532.2 or 532.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties

- Provide general fabrication support on experimental apparatus using standard machine tools, hand tools, soldering techniques, and test and measurement equipment.

- Provide design and update details and recommend modifications to engineering designs.

- Modify chassis panels and mechanical parts as required using hand and power tools (drill press, sanders, shears, Rotex punch).

- Install, evaluate, test, and debug chassis and/or rack equipment and assemblies.

- Manufacture cables using standard cable crimpers and hand tools and install cable trays and mounting hardware as required using hand and power tools.

- Identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternate approaches to solve moderately complex electromechanical fabrication installation problems and tasks.

- Translate moderately complex schematic drawing, parts list, and assembly drawing requirements into specific hardware deliverables.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at 532.3 Level

- Provide advanced fabrication support on experimental apparatus using standard machine tools, hand tools, soldering, and test and measurement equipment, and analyze preliminary data during micro-fabrication of prototype components and structures.

- Translate complex schematic drawings, parts list, and assembly drawing requirements into specific hardware deliverables.

- Write or interpret specifications used in fabricating electronic systems, chassis, components, or microstructures.

Qualifications

- Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Technology or related technology, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

- Experience in cable/chassis fabrication technology and standards and machine shop practices and experience in soldering processes and installation requirements.

- Ability to identify, analyze, and solve moderately complex problems.

- Experience with computers and data entry software tools.

- Experience working in a customer service/field support environment.

- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

- Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment.

- Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule that may include overtime, shift and/or weekends to accomplish goals.

In Addition at the 532.3 Level

- High level skills, knowledge, and abilities in electronics fabrication installation, inspection, or microfabrication which may be application specific.

- Experience making regular decisions regarding a variety of technical problems.

- Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.

Desired Qualifications

- Knowledge of BICSI and EIA/TIA standards.

- Experience with LLNL ES&H and Site-300 procedures.

- Experience with Network Installation and fiber optic termination.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
