Job Description

The mission of Intel Labs is to drive technology leadership for Intel. This includes coordinating research and development among multiple business groups and aligning Intel's strategies and technologies with future industry needs. The Emerging Systems Lab (ESL) in the Systems, Software and Architecture Research (SSA) Group in Intel Labs is driving exciting research to identify innovative systems technologies and capabilities for end-to-end (edge to cloud) infrastructure. The Advanced Storage Research lab (ASR) within ESL is focused on driving breakthrough infrastructure and systems research around emerging Cloud and Edge data movement and storage frameworks required to enable exciting new applications and capabilities.

We focus on improving storage data movement within a platform (peer to peer devices, CPU to Storage/SmartNIC), storage data movement across the datacenter and edge-to-cloud, and performance efficiency for storing, retrieving, and analyzing the contents of huge data lakes contained within complex distributed SW Defined Storage systems. We are looking for an experienced research scientist to advance our storage systems research. The research will translate those technologies into software and system prototypes with the goal of converting them into future products. The candidate must have a strong research discipline, be able to closely work with partners to drive the research agenda, and be capable of building a prototype to test their work. The candidate may participate in the development of Intellectual Property (IPs) and peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications

You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences



Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must possess a Master's degree ( with 5+ years industry experience ) or Ph.D. degree ( with 2+ years industry experience ) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline
  • 2+ years' experience in research experience utilizing or enhancing multi-platform computer systems
  • 2+ years' experience in developing and optimizing system software for Intel architecture.
  • 2+ years' experience in Linux, system programming skills, C/C++, performance characterization, and analysis of SW
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of taking initiative and driving projects to completion - results orientation
  • Experience with one or more open-source projects, and contributor to an open-source project
  • Understanding of storage mechanisms and protocols
  • High-quality publications in top tier conferences

Work Model for this Role

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site.
