The Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) is one of the largest units in the School of Engineering (SoE) offering an average of 60 courses each academic quarter, some of which are taught in a lab. Stanford EE seeks an experienced electronics lab manager to organize the logistics, materials and equipment needs of 5 to 15 courses each quarter utilizing limited classroom space. The Instructional Labs Manager will work closely with faculty and course assistants to set up and schedule classroom labs, provide user access and source the necessary equipment and supplies. She or he will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating the repair and maintenance of an inventory of properly working equipment including systems, oscilloscopes, signal sources, voltmeters, power supplies, and wave, distortion, spectrum and network analyzers. A key responsibility is ensuring safety and training on proper usage of equipment. The Manager may occasionally design and fabricate prototype equipment and electronic circuits to meet the needs and specifications of the instructional labs in coordination with the teaching staff and may advise in the design and implementation of class projects.

General Responsibilities
•Oversee the operation and management of an electrical engineering teaching facility; schedule and coordinate the use of the instructional labs.
•Coordinate and purchase materials, software and equipment for the various lab courses.
•Partner with departmental IT staff on computer hardware and software requirements for lab courses.
•Perform and/or coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of all equipment; determine proper method of repair.
•Train faculty and students in the proper usage of laboratory equipment.
•Advise faculty and students on project realization.
•Administer and prepare budgets that include several funding sources.
•Administer health and safety programs and ensure safety compliance; act as resource on safety procedures; provide instruction on routine basis; liaise with school and/or university health and safety office as appropriate.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:
•A bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience – or an equivalent combination of education and experience in years.
•General background in electrical engineering.
•Knowledge and experience in managing facilities, operations, maintenance, space, and equipment administration in a research or teaching setting.
•Familiar with modern lab hardware and software such as Matlab, Xilinx, Nvidia, FPGAs.
•Well versed in working with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
•Excellent communication and customer services skills.
•Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects in a complex and technical environment.
•Familiarity with health and safety compliance regulations.
•Demonstrated experience managing budgets.
