We have an opening for a Strategic Academic Recruiting and Diversity Manager who is committed to identifying, pursuing and building academic partnerships to expand Engineering Directorate's ability to develop and nurture a highly productive, diverse workforce. In this unique role, you will be responsible for developing and driving impactful initiatives and programs that will lead to attracting and hiring people from underrepresented communities. You will interface with a diverse set of constituencies, including senior leadership, employees, students, faculty, instructors and academic leadership. This position is in the Engineering Directorate, Associate Director's Office (ADO).

In this role you will

  • Lead, manage and grow Engineering's robust student intern diversity programs including: Graduate Engineering Minority program (GEM), Neurodiversity program, community college and high school programs. Develop metrics and analysis for intern diversity recruiting efforts and report to stakeholders communicating program impact and identify further opportunities to impact change. Design practices that incorporate processes that embed diversity, equity and inclusion into all aspects of the intern program.
  • Form and expand partnerships by representing the Laboratory on university, community college and student organization boards in support of LLNL's long term commitment to underrepresented populations entering STEM fields.
  • Develop and manage Engineering's academic recruiting strategy, partnering closely with University Recruiting Program Manager, Human Resources (HR) Talent Acquisition team, and Engineering Leadership team.
  • Train, coach and mentor technical staff on expanding relationships with universities, community colleges, trade schools, and professional associations.
  • Partner with Leadership team to identify business needs and prioritize strategic solutions/projects/programs to execute including developing new distance learning programs to reskill and enhance Engineering's workforce, contributing to multi-year workforce development strategies and creating academic partnerships to build educational programs in our open campus to serve employees, visiting faculty/instructors and students.
  • Work with HR/Diversity on recruiting initiatives to build and expand relationships both nationally and locally with student diversity organizations: e.g. SHPE, AISES, NSBE, SWE and LBGTQ groups.
  • Create, oversee and contribute to written communication materials including reports, proposals, flyers, presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U. S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, organizational development or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Strong analytical skills for creating surveys and collecting demographic data and analysis, with experience interpreting quantitative data trends and translating into recommendations.
  • Experience articulating a plan, translating it into a strategy and leading teams to embrace approaches using data and insights.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills, creative problem-solving capability, project management skills with demonstrated ability to quickly grasp principles and concepts related to new research areas.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively build working relationships within a diverse workforce, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Advanced writing skills and experience developing and preparing communication materials including reports, proposals, flyers, and presentations. Ability to prepare and present information in both small and large professional and casual forums.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp principles and concepts related to new research areas and articulate high-level technical aspects. Experience facilitating technical interactions between academic instructors/researchers and technical research staff.
  • Proven track record of industry-academic relationship development; including faculty/instructor and student groups; experience organizing campus and employer centric events.
  • Experience working with underrepresented communities and developing sustainable workforce pipelines.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% time both locally and nationally, may sporadically work extended hours and evenings.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Significant experience supporting workforce programs relating to STEM in government, industry or academia.
  • Previous experience working with DOE National Laboratories.
