Job Description

GTRIs Cooperative Education (co-op) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment, and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

The Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division (RASD) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for Student Roboticist Co-ops who are self-motivated and interested in gaining real-world experience starting summer 2021. The students will provide software development, testing, and other support, specifically for research in Swarming, Distributed Multi-Robot Systems, Collaborative Autonomy, and Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, along with other GTRI/ATAS projects, as directed by the engineering and software staff. This team primarily develops swarming algorithms for unmanned aircraft, performs software and hardware-in-the-loop testing, research and analysis, and live flight testing. Duties may include software and system testing, development and design, assembly of components/systems, performing experiments, formal creation and follow-up for development issues/bugs, software, and system documentation, assisting with field tests/demos, whitepaper creation, and other technical tasks appropriate for the skill level of an engineering/software student. 

We are looking for strong candidates that have extensive C/C++ and Python programming skills, follow software engineering best practices, and have a strong mathematical foundation and problem-solving skills. The candidates would have knowledge in one of the following:
ROS
Configuration management tools
Task/team leadership experience
Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
Familiarity with Linux and open source tools
Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Aerospace, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in integrating and deploying robotics algorithms for real-time operation on a robot in a real-world environment is a plus. Proven research or software project experience in at least one of these areas is desirable:
Multi-robot collaboration
Path planning and navigation
Behavior-based robotics
Optimal control and estimation
Machine learning for robotic control
Software engineering processes

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
