System Architect / Engineering and Physical Sciences Researcher - Entry to Experienced Level

The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) is seeking motivated System Architects to provide expertise, guidance, and support to the research and implementation of solutions that align mission-driven priorities with technical capabilities. LPS is a premier research organization, managed and operated by the U.S. Government, focused on developing new and innovative technologies to improve national security. Across its three locations, the University of Maryland-College Park, the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and Ft. George G. Meade, Maryland, LPS works across industry, academia, national laboratories and other government agencies to conduct research on advanced information technologies and drive state-of-the-art scientific and technical innovation.
As a hardware and/or software System Architect, you will leverage your technical skills and expertise to collaborate on framework design and implementation of complex software and hardware systems. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Guiding the development of hardware and/or software of future computing technologies;
- Designing and developing novel hardware and/or software system architectures that include early or exploratory technologies;
- Maintaining and evolving these architectures by reviewing and introducing changes based on project requirements and academic or industry advances;
- Leveraging emerging technologies and standards, and collaborating with vendors and partners to evaluate and incorporate offerings, when appropriate;
- Identifying, managing, and actively reducing risks, measuring progress across various efforts, and maximizing reuse of previous efforts, all while managing highly dynamic architectures.
