Systems Engineer (Early Career) - Limited Term Employees

We are seeking a very motivated Systems Engineer with project management experience to work closely with the other members of the Technical Security Systems (TSS) department. TSS consists of a Security Operations Center (SOC) and is the central communications hub of the security systems.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Partner with internal Sandia departments to ensure reliable operations are sustained with the security system.
+ Lead/manage the day-to-day operations (e.g., new installations, modifications, testing, and sustainment of the security system) for security projects.
+ Participate, as a key team member, in the design, installation, maintenance and testing of the new Alarm/Access Control system.


+ Bachelors degree in an engineering, construction or related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and relevant experience.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level Security Clearance.


+ Led successful large-scale projects and have and/or earning a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
+ Familiarity with project cost estimating tools.
+ Experience with physical security systems and system administration with ability to design, install, maintain, and test.
+ Technically advise the efforts of a cross-disciplinary team on large security implementation projects.
+ Experience and knowledge of:

- Diamond II and OnGuard Security platforms.
- Various UL standards in construction and alarm systems
- Video surveillance systems (to include software and hardware), and computer networks/associated equipment.
- National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Basic electronics and electronic circuits.
- DOE/NNSA Security directives.
+ Maintenance and/or installation experience on federal installations.
+ Experience with problem solving, attention to details, and critical thinking with minimal guidance.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support preparing detailed written report.
+ Sophisticated presentational skills with results to successfully collaborate with internal/external customers, suppliers and stakeholders.

Department Description:

The Technical Security Systems (TSS) department at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) provides a secure, robust, and sustainable electronic security system in support of Sandia's critical missions. The department is responsible for sustaining this security system at an acceptable level that meets Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. This is achieved by implementing high level standards and configuration control to the security systems followed by structured, preventive, and corrective maintenance processes. The TSS department interfaces and integrates with other departments within the Safeguards and Security Center which include Physical Security, Personnel Security, and the Protective Force. In addition to supporting the electronic security systems at SNL-NM, TSS provides program and technical support to several remote sites within the US.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
