Systems Engineer (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our diverse team! The selected candidate will complete activities related to system level design, testing, and engineering. In addition, the selected applicant would have knowledge of many different areas of engineering to ensure system level challenges are being addressed throughout the life cycle of a project; design/testing/implementation.

On any given day, you may be called on to

+ Manage the customer requirements during the design process and deriving them into functional and operational requirements.
+ Implement the requirements through design definition activities, such as design reports, engineering drawings, and specification.
+ Create system or sub system test plans that are traced to requirements.
+ Implement test plan either in laboratory, test field, or implementation site.
+ Select commercial products for procurement that meet specifications and customer requirements.


+ Bachelor's degree in STEM or in a relevant discipline
+ Ability to travel 25%-30% of the year
+ Can obtain a DOE Q clearance


+ Experience in physical security system Design, Testing, and Engineering
+ Ability to analyze and breakdown systems into manageable and discrete parts for better understanding and troubleshooting
+ Strong academic background (degree discipline, GPA, and graduation dates must be included in your resume for consideration)
+ Ability to excel and contribute to a fast-paced dynamic environment
+ Desire to work in highly collaborative environments
+ Experience deriving system requirements into sub-system and component requirements
+ Experience in military based security analysis or technologies (interior/exterior sensors, video, networks, data fusion, etc.) and / or experience with DoD applications of physical security
+ Experience with part/material selection and ordering
+ Experience with calibrating test equipment
+ Process management experience
+ Current DOE clearance

Department Description:

The NWS DoD Program Design and Implementation Department conducts vulnerability & design analysis and executes the security design, engineering, and implementation functions of complex physical security systems (PSS) within DoD and other government agencies. Specific tasks include planning and executing SEAs and other limited scope engineering assessments, development of conceptual and detailed PSS designs, participation in procurement activities, planning/executing pre- and post-installation testing, overseeing sub-contactors supporting installations, and developing post-installation logistics plans. The department provides project management and subject matter expertise in the area of analysis, response force planning and employment, detection, assessment, communications, entry control and AC&D. The department has one technical team assigned, The Physical Security Analysis & Response Department. This department is currently working with the US Navy, US Air Force, US Army, and Missile Defense Agency to enhance the effectiveness of critical asset protection at CONUS/OCONUS installations through several multi-million dollar initiatives. Many new projects are expanding beyond the traditional DOE complex or DoD Weapon Storage Area (WSA); these new protected assets include ultra-high security facilities and high demand/low density assets, DoD Force Protection/Anti-Terrorism, and intermediate level (PL2 - PL3) asset protection.

Security Clearance:
