Job Description:

Raytheons Farmington, NM facility is seeking an energetic and motivated Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) technician to support our EHSS compliance and OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP), and to collaborate with individuals and teams to foster employee engagement and drive continuous improvement of our EHSS program and culture.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental compliance, occupational safety, life safety, industrial hygiene, and will be responsible for implementing EHSS program tasks and initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Timely support to, and collaboration with, factory and site support personnel at all levels is essential. The candidate must demonstrate strong communications and interpersonal skills to effectively work in partnership with colleagues at all levels. Responsibilities may include, and are not limited to:
  • Under the direction of the site EHS Manager, maintain and improve EHSS programs to assure compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company EHSS requirements. Be a proactive, engaged, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace conditions.
  • Serve as hands-on, collaborative partner to implement EHSS initiatives that maintain regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement and foster a culture of safety for our employees and contractors.
  • Support and implement site injury reduction, environmental, and sustainability goals and initiatives.
  • Answer/address employee questions and concerns accurately and helpfully, with diligent focus on influencing safe behaviors.
  • Perform environmental compliance program activities, including, but not limited to: Collect, stage, organize, categorize, prepare, package, label and assist with shipment of hazardous waste and recyclable materials. Maintain waste and recycling storage areas to be compliant with regulations. Accurately complete and maintain required forms and paperwork.
  • Perform periodic inspections such as fire extinguishers, eyewashes, crane & hoist, etc. Refill eye wash stations, personal protective equipment inventory, first aid kits, etc.
  • Apply first aid and perform OSHA injury investigations. Identify and assist with corrective actions and track to completion.
  • Accurately input and maintain injury, metrics and other information into EHS & site databases.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments.
  • Organize, coordinate, develop & deliver material for EHS councils and team meetings.
  • Deliver EHS training, including but not limited to hazard communication, personal protective equipment, new employee orientation, powered industrial truck, powered pallet jack, fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined space, and other training.
  • Maintain contractor safety program, in collaboration with Facilities and other stakeholders.
  • Position requires being on-the-go throughout the day, including ability to stand/walk for long periods, ability to lift up to 28lbs several times/hour, as well as maneuver/move items for example while managing waste and recyclables
  • Assist in preparing for successful EHS audits, regulatory inspections, OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) recertifications, etc.
  • Develop, apply, and maintain a strong working understanding of OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA and other applicable regulations and internal/external standards, policies, and procedures, to ensure compliance is maintained.
  • A broad range of other duties as assigned by the site EHS Manager or other facility managers.
  • This position will require continued training/education necessary to perform all requirements and responsibilities of this position.
  • Ability/flexibility to rotate shifts and days off, as needed to maintain site EHS coverage
Please note: This position can be a Technical Support Associate Senior or Technical Support Specialist based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience, and responsibility requirements for the position.

Required Skills:
  • 4 years of relevant work experience in a setting such as Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS), manufacturing, compliance, and/or emergency response
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with data entry, data management, and/or similar data tracking systems such as Cority or Enablon
Desired Skills:
  • Associates degree in an Environment, Health and Safety profession and 4 years experience.
  • Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.
  • Solid and hazardous waste management experience.
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste & DOT Manifest training certifications.
  • Experience conducting industrial and/or office ergonomics assessments.
Required Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Desired Education:
  • 10 years applied experience in an Environment, Health or Safety field will be considered in lieu of degree.
