Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking a technical project manager/principal investigator in Washington, D.C. to support the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) with current and anticipated communications programs. The technical project manager will support the management of multiple sponsored research projects. Program management typically involves some level of hands-on technical work in addition to routine reporting, budget and schedule tracking, and team direction. ISRD’s projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, and modeling/simulation. Applications include radar, electronic warfare, Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT) systems.

The successful candidate will be able to lead to a team of multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists to achieve project objectives and milestones. The candidate must be resourceful, take initiative, and be able to self-manage within set expectations. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are desired.
Additionally, the successful candidate is familiar with proposal writing for government sponsored research and development (R&D) and will be able to develop or contribute to R&D proposals.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams for RF system design, development, implementation and/or field testing
  • People skills applicable to management of engineering teams
  • Experience with basics of project management including project cost estimation, budget tracking, reporting and other routine management tasks
  • Experience with development of engineering programs via networking, briefings for potential sponsors, publications and other means
  • Experience in generation of white papers and proposals for program development and bidding
  • Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project for project tracking
  • Must currently possess a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with effects based signals analysis and/or physics-based modeling and simulation is highly desired, and
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).
