Technical Requirements Systems Engineer (Experienced)

We are seeking a driven Systems Engineer to join the W80-4 warhead life extension program (LEP), to serve as a member of the Requirements Team. The W80-4 technical requirements engineer position is a meaningful role requiring collaboration and team work across the overall scope of the LEP. In this role, you will partner with teammates to derive system requirements for component groups, identify and define system to component interfaces, flow of parent requirements from source documents, and help in all of the aspects of requirements management including testing, qualification and verification. You will assist the requirements lead to quantify and organize metrics associated with maturity of requirements. You will likely work with multiple PRT SNL organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security.

On any given day, depending on your specialization and interests, your contributions and responsibilities may include a few or all the following:

+ Derivation of system requirements for components compatibility documents
+ Derivation and interpretation of shared requirements with LLNL
+ Reporting metrics on maturity of requirements and burn down plans
+ Preparing for and presenting to diverse audiences at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings
+ Coordinating with teams to develop a detailed understanding of customer requirements and ensuring maturation of requirements for specific system aspects or components
+ Attending technical meetings with the mechanical, electrical and qualification team to be involved in current design trade studies and decisions
+ Collaborating with weapon system engineers and/or component engineers, and providing technical mentorship on how to write appropriate requirements for verification
+ Working hand in hand on integration activities with various systems engineers and product realization team's requirements and performance to those requirements
+ Representing Sandia on multi-organizational project teams (i.e. NNSA, DoD, LLNL, SNL)
+ Adapting to a constantly changing environment


+ Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, plus 5 or more years' related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Industrial Engineering plus 1 or more years' related experience; or equivalent related experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development
+ Experience working on nuclear weapons design, qualification, production, or related projects
+ Ability to travel up to 25%
+ Active security clearance; DOE Q or DOD TS


+ Experience writing requirements for either Joint Test Assemblies or other nuclear weapon system-level designs
+ Strong communication skills, including ability to present to large and diverse audiences
+ Team focused with ability to collaborate with a variety of personalities
+ Experience working with Earned Value Management

Department Description:

The W80-4 System Integration Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center. The Weapon Systems Engineering Center is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The W80-4 System Integration Departments are comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers with advanced technical degrees, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering. A major effort for this organization is the engineering design and development in support of a Life Extension Program for a nuclear warhead (W80-4). The W80-4 warhead will be deployed on the future U.S. Air Force Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile that will replace the existing Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM)/W80 Warhead weapon system in our nation's nuclear deterrent stockpile. This is a long term program that will require close collaboration with many different departments within Sandia as well as with organizations outside of Sandia such as LLNL, NNSA, Production Facilities, and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Security Clearance:
