Job Title: Technician - PDU

 

Location: Knoxville, TN

  

Job Summary and Description:

In this position, the technician will work closely with EPRI technical staff to:

  • Setup, assemble, install, or build components of experimental apparatus or equipment for testing
  • Perform laboratory testing and data analysis on energy utilization equipment while following established procedures for routine work
  • Communicate analysis and results in electronically complied, written, and verbal formats to EPRI technical staff by recording, organizing, and analyzing data, writing test notes, and formatting test results for inclusion into written reports and presentations

 

Provides technical assistance and advice to Engineers, Project Managers and Program Managers. Normally follows established procedures on routine work.  Performs engineering or scientific services that may include but are not limited to the following (in compliance with current industry and Government practices):

  • Tests and evaluation
  • Technology planning
  • Systems architecture development
  • Requirements development
  • Concept development
  • Systems design
  • System development and integration
  • Systems operation and construction
  • Integrated logistics support
  • Modeling and simulation

 

Education:

Certification and/or Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 1-3 year of experience as a technician in at least one of the primary engineering or scientific disciplines.
  • Must be able to set up, assemble, install or build components of experimental apparatus or equipment.
  • Normally follows established procedures on routine work.  Requires instructions only on new assignments.

The Ideal Candidate:

The Technician may possess knowledge and experience in the following areas:

 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency configuring and using an oscilloscope
  • Experience using hand-held multi-meters, power quality meters, and/or data acquisition systems
  • Knowledge of electrical power fundamentals (AC, DC, voltage, current, ohm’s law, power, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic electrical components (capacitor, inductor, resistor, transistor)
  • Experience following written test protocols or procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience interpreting and summarizing test results
  • Strong computer skills
  • Knowledge of statistics and data analysis
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think “outside of the box” to drive improvements in test protocols and procedures
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to work independently, but knows when to ask for assistance and further direction
  • Ability to prioritize, allocate, and manage time and budget for assigned tasks
  • Strong motivation to develop and apply new knowledge and skills
  • Self-motivated, quick learner, with an ability to adapt to changes in work scope
