Technologist - Sensor, Imager, Communication Systems (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking an electrical engineering technologist to join our dynamic team to help us address technical challenges associated with testing, evaluating, installing, and fielding new sensor, imager, or communications systems. This role will evaluate commercial technologies to determine their ability to meet performance requirements. Statistical techniques may be needed to analyze data collected during development tests, validation test, or operational performance tests. Many of the technical problems presented will require several skillsets to identify viable solutions. The selected candidate will be responsible for field work and testing, seeking CARP approvals, PHS and other ES&H documents, and handling a wide variety of logistics associated with security, safety, procurements and moving equipment, material, and test articles. Responsibilities may include being asked to facilitate network and computer equipment communications. Non-technical challenges will require understanding of Sandias corporate principals such as ES&H requirements applied to a given activity or experiment and the ability to estimate costs, schedules, and reporting requirements dictated by sponsors.

Ability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally!


+ Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or another STEM discipline
+ Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects, equipment and material logistics, support to systems engineering leads with timely communications, and ability to assist in communications to customers
+ Experience creating, managing, and maintaining project and system documentation in an organized, secure and accessible manner
+ Experience defining system test requirements, executing tests, and documenting findings
+ Willingness to obtain a DOE L or Q clearance


+ Experience in physical security systems design, including security requirements (policies), access control systems, network communications, camera and video assessment, sensor/alarm communications and installation and trouble-shooting, low voltage power, and site surveys for physical security
+ Experience with RF, Radar and related signals analysis
+ Possession of a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification and have experience operating unmanned systems (or willingness to become a remote pilot)
+ Ability to excel within a dynamic or fluid environment with sometimes vague customer requirements
+ Experience in data collection, data analytics, and software development
+ Experience with MatLab, Labview, Python
+ Experience in low voltage power engineering
+ Demonstrated competence to interpret and develop sound system requirements from general and/or ambiguous guidance
+ Network design or communications experience
+ Current DOE L, Q or TS SCI clearance

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
