What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking technical and electrical leads for telemetry projects. In the lead role, you be responsible for delivering a complete product for test and production milestones and will have a team of engineers that you task and set priorities for, as well as act as a mentor.

On any given day you may be called on to:

+ Coordinate with other organizations and external customers to negotiate requirements, deliverables, and risks, and document them appropriately

+ Lead or coordinate peer reviews of electromechanical product and firmware

+ Provide a driving force to get issues resolved and open questions answered to ensure continual progress on the project

+ Coordinate with PM personnel and designers to develop schedules and project plans that include all tests leading to product quallification

+ Bridge the communication between the technical team and the customer/systems group

+ Serve as a point of contact with customers, production agencies and line management for technical and programmatic issues

+ Negotiate roles, responsibilities, and deliverables of the technical team

+ Develop appropriate top level documentation for the project

+ Be an active participant in test setup and execution

+ Serve as a telemetry representative at PRT and WG meetings

This role can be virtual if travel requirements can be met.

For internal employees, this role is eligible for post and bid promotion.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a relevant STEM discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

+ Five years’ engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development

+ The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or Distric of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your work locaiton may be required.

+ Ability to travel up to 25% for non-virtual workers. Ability to travel a minimum of 25% for virtual workers.

+ An active DOE Top Secret ‘Q’ Security Clearance or equivalent

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects

+ Experience working with telemetry products

+ Tools/Programs: C/C++, SPICE, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabVIEW, ModelSim, HDL, EAGLEPCB, Mentor Graphics, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers

+ Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling

+ Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team focused environment

+ Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers

About Our Team:

Sandia California's Telemetry and Stockpile Support Department develops and maintains telemetry systems in support of the nuclear deterrence surveillance mission. Telemetry systems has responsibility for all aspects of telemetry development, including conceptual design, prototype development and testing, and transitioning production work to DOE production agencies. Telemetry systems integrate precision sensor electronics and signal conditioning with RF communication systems to support flight testing of Joint Test Assemblies. Work is performed by teams of electrical engineers and mechanical engineers, in partnership with quality engineering, reliability engineering, and project management. Current development mission assignments include the W88 ALT370 JTA8 project, the W78 JTA6R project, and the W76 JTA3 project. Stockpile support oversees the quality, reliability, and availability of all qualified telemetry systems that are being used in the on-going surveillance mission.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
