Position is open for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development and validation of touch and sensing module functional test fixtures, working closely with the product design teams

Key Qualifications

  • This design engineer will own the end-to-end mechanical development of functional test fixtures for sensing and touch modules, with responsibilities including:
  • Design and development of custom in-house jigs, fixtures, PCB outline and equipment to support instrumentation & test development work
  • Brainstorming fixture design concepts and executing design through all phases of the development cycle
  • Defining mechanical interface requirements for functional test fixtures
  • Defining critical mechanical component outlines for interface and other critical test fixture elements
  • Supporting mechanical outline and Z-clearance analysis for PCBA design
  • Generating fixture design mechanical specification documentation
  • Generating dimensional and tolerance analysis to assure fixtures work by design
  • Test fixture mechanical bring-up, debug, and characterization
  • Test fixture mechanical validation, GR&R, and qualification
  • Working closely with vendors to execute, replicate, and deploy test fixtures at multiple sites; liaison with HW/SW test fixture lead and operations team to execute mechanical test fixture strategy across supply base
  • Cross functional fixture design reviews to get buy in across Apple stakeholders
  • Communicating test fixture design/development status to management
  • Developing robust engineering verification, OQC, FAI and part maintenance plans to be executed by partner vendors and CM's
  • Documenting known best practices and maintaining a library of proven designs
  • Exhibit leadership and influence for test system architecture and product design for test
  • Full automation system development and end-to-end project management

Description

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of hands-on design experience with factory manufacturing or test equipment in a high volume production environment. Direct experience with functional test fixture/equipment for consumer electronics products or modules is highly preferred
• 3D CAD experience required, NX preferred
• Applied knowledge in flex circuits, printed circuit boards, high cycle life/high density interconnects, motors, actuators, fine pitch probing, etc.. is beneficial
• Disciplined in GD&T practices with close attention to datum establishment
• Scientific method, experimental process, root cause analysis
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors
• Teamwork: the candidate must be able to communicate well with cross-functional team members, be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the engineering community
• Extensive travel to Asia required
• Automation experience is a plus
• Optical systems, camera alignment, wafer handling is a plus
